Samy’s Curry Restaurant
Type of cuisine & Short History :
South Indian Cuisine include the five southern states of Inda – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerela, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Rice is the staple, the use of lentils and spices, dried chillies and fresh green chillies. Most important is coconut and curry power which is also known as Kari Podi.
Ala carte menu will set you back to about $25 per person
Unlimited portion of rice and side dishes. I would go for the potatoes for the side dish and the byrani for the rice.
Who to take here :
Anyone who has an appetite for chilli.
Good for lunch or dinner. Just make sure you are ready for some heavy perspiring from the chilli.
Ambience and Setting : Casual setting. Kind of authentic serving food on a banana leaf.
Speed – Really quick. I think it might have been pre-cooked. Even the Curry Fish Head that we ordered came really quickly.
Staff – Very helpful and service oriented. When they knew Swee Tin liked the potatoes, they gave us a small packet to go. That was a nice touch. Then again, my wife goes there almost every other week. Sometimes I wonder if she has bought a membership with them.
Just A Little More Info
South Indian cuisine still retains many elements of the ancient Dravidian culture some 4,500 years ago: food served in banana leaves, or the ubiquitous spice blend kari podi, or curry powder, are all indigenous to this region. The geographic and cultural seclusion of the South Indian peninsula, has left southern cuisine very ”Indian,” which basically means – lots of coconut, spices and chilli.
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are offered by the kitchen.
Influenced by the five southern states of India, be prepared for a culinary and fiery experience to your palate and tummy.
Prepare to order lots of drinks.
Curry Fish Head
So far one of the better curry fish head I have tried. They use brinjal over lady’s fingers as the vegetable. Fish is extremely fresh and juicy
Huge prawns and really spicy gravy
Definitely a must try! But be prepared have a little fire brewing in your tummy. The chilli is deliciously hot!
Chilli Fried Fish Egg. Only if you have enough left in your tummy after all the main dishes.
1. It is not air-conditioned. With the spiciness of the food and the weather in Singapore, it can get quite sweaty…
1. Make your reservations early.
2. Sit outside. At least you do not get the smell and heat of the food inside the restaurant.
